    KINCAID Three Kincaid brothers came to Texas before 1890, one brother John Joseph settled in Coleman County. His future wife Louisa Emaline Slate came to Texas about 1887, she and two younger brothers rode the train to Abilene (end of the line) and were met there by some of their family in a wagon and team who lived at old Atoka. John Joseph worked for a stage line that ran between Atoka and old Fort Conch. John and Emaline were married in 1890. Emaline cooked for the men working on the stage line after her marriage. They had seven children, one was Robert Seaborn. Robert served in the Army during World War 1, he later married Grace Casey in Novice and they made Novice their home. They thirteen children, several of the children still live in Novice, along with grandchildren, also great-grandchildren.

    Louisa Emaline Slate Kincaid was the daughter of Samuel Jackson Slate and Lydia Matilda Gollihar. Lydia was 1/2 or part Cherokee according to the oral family tradition of Louisa's descendants as well as that of her half brother, Okla Homa Nettles' descendants, although it has not yet been proven. Okla Homa was a son of Lydia Matilda Gollihar and second husband Francis Marion Nettles, and is buried in Ripley County, Missouri. Francis M. Nettles and Samuel Jackson Slate served together in Company A, Coleman's Regiment Missouri Cavalry of the Confederate Army.
    Louisa Emaline Slate married John Joseph Kincaid 26 Jun 1890 in Ballenger, Runnels, Texas. Known to her descendants as "Mammy Kincaid." Several of her siblings from her father's first marriage (to wife Elizabeth Johnson)came to Texas as well--Enoch Lewis Slate, Polly William Slate (married James Murrill), and Sarah Elizabeth Slate (married 1st, J. Frank Moore, 2nd ___Futrell. These three siblings are all buried in Atoka Cemetery.

    were living in Denton, Denton Co, Texas. Mary's funeral was at the
    home of Doc's sister Martha Julia Ann Baines Smith. Per Census
    1900: they were living in Granbury, Hood Co, Texas. James Quincey
    Baines who died in Coleman Co, Texas on 07-JAN-1933 may have been a
    son of "Doc". Some evidence shows that Maybelle Baines was a
    daughter of Doc and Ora.
