VERNA HARRISON DUREN

Funeral services for Mrs. Verna Harrison Duren will be held Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Richard Gillet and Rev. Winston Coones officiating. Interment will be held in the New Energy Cemetery [Belott, Houston Co, TEXAS].

Mrs. Verna Harrison Duren, age 104, of Crockett [Houston Co, TEXAS], passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010 in the Whitehall Nursing Center in Crockett. Mrs. Duren was born March 17, 1906 in Harrison Town [Houston Co], Texas and had lived in Port Arthur [Jefferson Co, TEXAS] until 1964, moving to Crockett. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a lifetime member and past president of Port Acres P.T.A. and a member of the Houston County Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Duren was a homemaker and was also a member of the New Energy Methodist Church.

Survivors include children, Doris Alderman of Shreveport, Louisiana, Colleen Moore of Groveton, Verna Hogan Baumbach and husband, Joe of Pasadena, Virginia Sherer and husband, Arnold of Crockett, William Wayne Duren and wife, Joann of Beaumont, James Hudson Duren and wife, Sandy of Crockett, George T. Duren, Jr. and wife, Debby of Lufkin; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; twenty-five great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Preceded in death by husband, George T. Duren, Sr.; great-grandson, Brian Moore, eight siblings and son-in-law, Gaylon Alderman. She was the last survivor of the James and Margaret Harrison Family.
