Rev. Richard Floyd (R. F.) MITCHELL.

BUSH - 10 - There are ten (10) BUSHs buried in Atoka Cemetery, all  related to Richard Rhodes BUSH and his wife

Henrietta Mary GRIFFIN BUSH.

SHIELDS - 9 - There are nine (9) SHIELDS buried in the Atoka Cemetery.

• Six (6) SHIELDS are descendants of Jefferson Marion SHIELDS and his wife Lottie L. TAYLOR SHIELDS,

• Two SHIELDS  have not been connected to the SHIELDS - TAYLOR Family Tree.

There are eight (8) DEAKINS buried in Atoka,  all descendants of Finis Ewing DEAKINS

and his wife Sarah Elizabeth KELLY DEAKINS, except Baby DEAKINS, and F.B. DEAKINS,

MCCAIN - 4 - There are four McCAINs buried in Atoka Cemetery. William Edgar McCAIN, his wife

Vera Della PARKER McCAIN and their family of twin daughters Loreta Thelma McCAIN and Juanita Velma McCAIN

and daughter Willie Lee McCAIN SHIELDS (SHIELDS) are buried in Atoka Cemetery.

TAYLOR - 4

Four (4) TAYLORs are buried in Atoka Cemetery, but only two have been identified as related.

Felix TAYLOR and his daughter Lottie TAYLOR SHIELDS are buried with the SHELDS family.

Angeline TAYLOR BALLEW is buried with no family at the end of row 10.

Baby Girl TAYLOR lived only a few days before she died 10 February 1908; neither her parents nor her gravesite

have yet to be identified.

KEGANS - 3 - There are three (3) KEGANS buried in Atoka Cemetery, all related to John Hamilton "Hamp" KEGANS.

The KEGANS married into the BUSH Family Tree and the PARKER Family Tree.

KELLY - 3

The three (3) KELLYs buried in Atoka Cemetery have yet to be connected in a family tree.

Sarah Elizabeth KELLY DEAKINS is buried with her husband's DEAKINS family.

Dellie Delta KELLY has a common headstone with her mother Cansadia (Gansadia) BALLEW KELLY;

they both died during Dellie's birth.

• Infant Paul Alton KELLY has yet to be identified.

LAIRD - 3

• Lilia V. LAIRD ATTAWAY, a member of the ATTAWAY Atoka Cemetery Family Tree, and her brother

Opal LAIRD are buried in Atoka Cemetery; in addition Opal's wife Pearl is also buried in Atoka Cemetery.

Alice Ruth LAIRD PARKER married into the PARKER and BUSH Family Trees as the wife of Mike Ray PARKER.

However, she has yet to be connected to the other two LAIRDs buried in Atoka Cemetery.

NICHOLS - 3 - Morgan Louis NICHOLS, his second wife Eula STEPHENS NICHOLS, and their two children,

Dale (Infant) NICHOLS and Dock Aaron "Skeeter" NICHOLS are the NICHOLS family buried in

Atoka Cemetery.

SHELTON - 3

The SHELTONs buried in Atoka Cemetery are Pearl Wilmoth SARTOR SHELTON DAVIS b. 1889.

(wife of Thomas George SHELTON b. 1886) and her three small children.

and his daughter Doris Evylin (Dorris Evelyn) ATTAWAY DRY are buried in Atoka Cemetery.

In addition, Truett's daughter Venita Ann ATTAWAY CUNNINGHAM ALMACK's second husband

Jess Jack ALMACK is buried in Atoka Cemetery.

BALLEW - 2

Two BALLEWs are buried in the Atoka Cemetery, both related to Angeline TAYLOR BALLEW,

who is also buried in Atoka Cemetery. Angeline's last child, infant Charles D. BALLEW,

died three days after his birth. Angeline's first child Cansadia (Gansadia) BALLEW KELLY and

her only child, Dellie Delta KELLY both died during Dellie's birth.

BROWN - 2

There are several BROWNs in the Atoka Family Tree but we have yet to put them together in one tree.

Perry B. BROWN married Myrtle (Mertie) E KINCAID BROWN in the KINCAID Family Tree.

L. BROWN and Mrs. L. WRIGLELY BROWN are listed by the COLEMAN COUNTY,

TEXAS CEMETERY DIRECTORY, however, no gravestones have been identified.

• Bertie B. BROWN BIRDWELL married Reuben BIRDWELL b. 1881 (see BIRDWELL Family Tree),

son of Elijah Garner "Eli" BIRDWELL, who is buried in Atoka Cemetery.

• Sheilah BROWN KINCAID married Gary KINCAID b. 1948 (see KINCAID Family Tree), and their son

Timothy Ray KINCAID b. 1979 is buried in Atoka Cemetery.

CATE - 2

Mikel Gorden CATE is a member of the BULLARD Family Tree; his father Rex Lee CATE is also buried in

Atoka Cemetery.

CHILDRESS - 2

The four (4) CHILDRESS' buried in Atoka Cemetery are Rev. Hugh Martin CHILDRESS Sr.

and his wife Susannah WATTERS CHILDRESS, their son Elisha CHILDRESS

and his wife Mary Mariah MURRILL CHILDRESS .

EVRAGE - 2

Brother George Madison EVRAGE and sister Nora Maude EVRAGE WARE are buried along side

her husband Orbie Cicero WARE and their infant WARE.

GOATS - 2

Elizabeth Ann CRUTCHER ARNOLD, buried in Atoka Cemetery, is Effie GOATS' maternal grandmother

and Daniel Preston GOATS' maternal great-grandmother.

Effie GOATS (1891 - 1891, daughter of Elbert Jones GOATS and Mary Jane "Molly" ARNOLD GOATS)

is the paternal aunt of Daniel Preston GOATS.

Between the graves of Effie and Daniel Preston is an unknown grave with a rock marker.

GREER - 2

Bettye L. GREER and brother James E. GREER, both infants, are the great grandchildren of

Rev, Richard Floyd MITCHELL, patriarch of the MITCHELL Family Tree in Atoka Cemetery.

HYDEN - 2

Brothers Montie Lee HYDEN and Z. J. HYDEN are buried close to each other; their mother was a DePRANG

and also buried in Atoka Cemetery with seven other DePRANGs.

JENNINGS - 2 - The two JENNINGS have yet to be connected.

Cynthia Ann JENNINGS WILLIAMS married William Zane “Bill” WILLIAMS and therefore into the

PARKER  and BUSH Family Trees.

Fred Bryan JENNINGS Sr. married Ruth Karl HOTHAN JENNINGS, a member of the BUSH Family Tree.

MOORE - 2

On 26 Aug 1907, ”James Frank MOORE and a son, Oscar James MOORE, were killed by poison gas while

cleaning a well” and were buried with a common headstone.

James' wife Sarah Elizabeth SLATE MOORE FUTRELL is buried next to them.

NICKOLSON - 2 - Buried next to each other, Neal NICHOLSON and his son Leonard Reed NICHOLSON

are the only two NICHOLSONs buried in Atoka Cemetery.

PARHAM - 2

RAY - 2 - Isaac Willis RAY married Agnes Mary MITCHELL, granddaughter of patriarch Rev. Richard Floyd MITCHELL;

they are both buried in Atoka Cemetery. Their grandson Terry Larkin RAY is also buried in Atoka Cemetery.

Both RAYs are members of the MITCHELL Family Tree.

RICHARDS - 2

RODDAN - 2 - William Homer RODDAN and Jesse Justis RODDAN are the infant grandsons of

Charles Eyre JUSTIS, said to be buried in a nearby, unmarked grave in Atoka Cemetery.

WARE - 2

Orbie Cicero WARE and his wife Nora Maude EVRAGE WARE are buried with their infant WARE.

WILLIAMS - 2

By marrying Willie Faye PARKER WILLIAMS, Oscar Zane "Curley" WILLIAMS married into the

PARKER and BUSH Family Trees in Atoka Cemetery. Their daughter Judith Faye WILLIAMS CHEATWOOD

and her husband William R. CHEATWOOD II are also buried in Atoka Cemetery.

ABBOTT - 1

According to the COLEMAN COUNTY, TEXAS CEMETERY DIRECTORY,  William J. ABBOTT and

wife Sarah Ann MITCHELL ABBOTT (of the MITCHELL Family Tree) are buried in

Atoka Cemetery, however, no gravestones have been identified.

ADKINS - 1

According to her gravestone inscription, Jean RICHESON ADKINS is the "BELOVED SISTER OF BOBBIE DEPRANG."

Bobbie Gene RICHESON DEPRANG is the wife of Herman D. DEPRANG of the DEPRANG family.

ALMACK - 1 - Jess Jack ALMACK's second wife Venita Ann ATTAWAY CUNNINGHAM ALMACK

is a member of the Atoka Cemetery ATTAWAY Family Tree.

ANDERSON - 1 - J. Matt ANDERSON married Ann S. MURRILL ANDERSON  in the MURRILL Family Tree.

BAINES - 1 - Edwin Porter "Doc" BAINES was the father-in-law of James Roach KINCAID of the KINCAID family.

BATES - 1 - James Roy BATES is the only BATES surname buried in Atoka Cemetery, however

CASEY - 1 - Grace CASEY KINCAID is the only CASEY surname buried in Atoka Cemetery,

however she married into the large KINCAID Atoka Cemetery Family Tree.

CHASTAIN - 1 - Edward Harold CHASTAIN is a member of the KINCAID family tree.

CHEATWOOD - 1 - William CHEATWOOD married Judith Faye WILLIAMS CHEATWOOD, in the BUSH, PARKER,

CLAY - 1 - Little Brendan Lee CLAY, the only CLAY buried in Atoka Cemetery, is buried with his

great-great-grandparents, Robert Seaborn KINCAID and Grace CASEY KINCAID  and his

DANIEL - 1 - John Wiley DANIEL is the only member of his family buried in Atoka Cemetery. However, his

DANIEL kin married into the PARKER Family Tree and the BIRDWELL Family Tree.

DELA-GARZA - 1

DICKSON - 1 - Lizzie DICKSON SHIELDS married "Oll" M. SHIELDS, who has yet to be placed in the

SHIELDS Atoka Cemetery Family Tree.

DICKERSON - 1

DIKES - 1 - Martha Louise DIKES BURK HILL is the only member of her families -- DIKES, BURK, or HILL --

buried in Atoka Cemetery. A source suggests, "Martha must have been visiting with her daughter,

Candace, in Coleman County at the time of her death (She may have been there because of health issues)."

DYER - 1 - Ethel Effie DYER MURRILL PARKER, the only DYER buried in Atoka Cemetery, married into the

MURRILL and the PARKER Atoka Cemetery Family Trees.

EDENBOROUGH - 1 - Four-year-old Edith EDENBOROUGH is the only member of her family

buried in Atoka Cemetery.

GALAWAY - 1 - John GALAWAY's widow married into the PARKER Family Tree in Atoka Cemetery.

GRIFFIN - 1 - Henrietta Mary GRIFFIN BUSH married Richard Rhodes BUSH in the BUSH Family Tree.

HAMILTON - 1 - HAMILTON ELLIOTT Mattie A (Martha Ann) married Isaac B. ELLIOTT; their son James G. ELLIOTT

married into the PARKER Family Tree. Perhaps the two unknown graves on either side of Mattie are

her two children, Martha Emily and Dolly, who have yet to be found in adulthood.

HANEY - 1 Cora Lee HANEY is the only member of her family buried in Atoka Cemetery. The 1930 US Federal

Census indicates she was living in Coleman Co with her family, so perhaps proximity was the deciding

factor when Cora Lee died a few months later on Christmas day 1930.

HARDING - 1 - To date, neither infant Dott HARDING[S] nor his parents J. F. and E. M. have been place

in an Atoka Cemetery Family Tree.

HARGROVE - 1 - Sarah Ann HARGROVE MITCHELL married Rev. Richard Floyd MITCHELL,

the patriarch of the the MITCHELL Family Tree in Atoka Cemetery.

HOFFMAN - 1 - Sarah E. "Sallie" HOFFMAN BIRDWELL married Elijah Garner "Eli" BIRDWELL;

they are the head of the BIRDWELL Family buried in Atoka Cemetery.

HOTHAN - 1 Ruth HOTHAN JENNINGS, the only HOTHAN buried in Atoka Cemetery, is a member of the

BUSH Family Tree.

According to Justis family history, Charles Eyre JUSTIS is buried in one of the unmarked graves, probably close

to his grandchildren, William Homer RODDAN and Jesse Justis RODDAN, who both died as infants. The family

history adds, "Charles Eyre Justis was a great grandson of John Morton, Signer of the Declaration of

Independence, delegate from Pennsylvania."

KELLETT - 1 - Clementena KELLETT PARKER married David Frederick PARKER in the PARKER Family Tree.

KENDRICK - 1 - Wallace Fred KENDRICK is the only member of his family buried in Atoka Cemetery,

however, he married into the DePRANG family tree in Atoka Cemetery.

LANTER - 1 - Vernon Robert LANTER has a common headstone with Joyce DAVIS LANTER, the great

granddaughter of Sarah Elizabeth (S. L.) PENDLETON SLATE KINCAID, buried in Atoka Cemetery.

LITTLE - 1 - Annie Gillison LITTLE MITCHELL married into the MITCHELL Family Tree in Atoka Cemetery.

Annie's mother Annie GILLISON LITTLE is also buried in Atoka Cemetery. Both Annie's were Scottish

emigrants.

Cemetery, she is part of the large KINCAID Atoka Cemetery Family Tree.

and Ada KNIGHT PORTER 1889 – 1969, is buried with her maternal grandparents
